What is the purpose of the WFNS Education Committee?
First, I would like to thank Professor Nelson Oyesiku, President of WFNS, Professor Miguel A Arraes, First Vice President of WFNS, Professor Kenan Arnautovic, Coordinator of WFNS Committees, for the opportunity to develop together with Dr. Satoshi Kuroda a teaching project for the Neurosurgeons.
The WFNS Education & Training Committee was created on the work of many prominent Neurosurgeons. In 1991, the first course of the committee was held in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, under the coordination of Professor Armando Basso, with more than 700 participants, since then several others have followed.
The main objective was to spread knowledge worldwide, especially in underdeveloped and developing countries.

How do you believe is the best way to spread worldwide knowledge?
The pandemic brought new ways to spread knowledge. The “webinars” become popular bringing knowledge across the globe. With the end of the pandemic, we hope that it will happen soon, the return to in-person activities, with courses, symposia, and especially Hands-On courses must start again. The partnership with Federated Societies is essential for us to carry out and develop this project.
Dr. Luis Borba received the Honorary Professor of Schenov University (Russia) award.
You have just been appointed chairman of the WFNS Education Committee, what are the plans for the near future?
Together with Dr. Satoshi Kuroda from Japan, we want to carry out work that focuses on improving education globally, focusing on Young Neurosurgeons, residents, and interested medical students.
Neurosurgery is focus, dedication, commitment, and training, our committee, in addition to providing access to education, has the function of encouraging our future Neurosurgeons about the beauty of our specialty and the important role we have in society.
Together with Professor Albert Sufianov, chairman of Neurosurgery at Sechenov
Do you see education as the main driver to achieve progress?
EDUCATION is EVERYTHING, however, nothing is done alone, all committee members are engaged in this project. We select people with recognized knowledge, but mainly people dedicated to Neurosurgical training and committed to this purpose.

How to reach the Neurosurgeons in different regions with so Desigual opportunities and facilities?
We know this, that’s why our project is adapted to the reality of each region. For example, next January 14th, we will start a joint project with CAANS (Africa), coordinated by Professors Nasser El-Ghandour and Mahmood Mubashir Qureshi which, through monthly Webinars, will discuss topics from the most basic to the most specialized. Unfortunately, our world is very unequal, and we must adapt, however using the maximum of our strength to the difference be smaller.
Speech after being elected president of World skull Base congress will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on March 23-27, 2022
What your opinion about the role of WFNS Foundation?
The foundation plays a fundamental role in supporting the development of all projects, a difficult task due to the scarcity of resources. It works day by day to make all our dreams come true. I congratulate the former president, Professor Miguel Arraez, and I am sure it will be in good hands with Dr. Basant Misra. We are very excited about the opportunity to be able to contribute to a better World Neurosurgery
